Helpful Tips

The Answer to the Quiz on the Home Page:

B.  Hearing Loop technology.

The use of a telecoil in one's hearing aid or cochlear implant acts as a receiver. The telecoil picks up the magnetic field in the hearing loop wire, (created by sound going into the microphone), and converts it  back into a sound signal used by the hearing aid/coclear implant directly. There is no need for a separate receiver.

The radio  signal of an FM system, and the light signal from an Infared system, cannot be utilized by a telecoil alone. To use these two systems requires a neck loop plugged into a reciever and activation of the telecoil.

If no telecoil is available, a headset plugged into the appropriate receiver for all three Assistive Listening System types, is needed.
